I used to be able to copy an image from a website and simply paste it in a Pages document.  Now when I try to paste it only inserts the URL.  How can I get it to go insert/paste the picture and not the location?

Copying & pasting an image directly from a web page into a Pages document has always been just a link to the image even if it appeared to copy the image.  I prefer to drag an image from my browser to my desktop & then drag it into my Pages document.

I do the copy and paste and it works fine but then I have Snow Leopard and not Lion. Could it be a Lion thing?

I don't think it's limited to Lion. I first came across the issue some time ago, probably Leopard or earlier.

You are right, Peggy. It is a Pages09 thing. I mostly use Pages08 for pasting from the web.

That is not the case. I have just double and triple checked to make sure.

You are confusing yourself with images that are actually are links on the Web.

Right click on the image and choose Copy Image.

OK, let me try this again...

I right click on an image and click on Copy Image.

I open a pages document, right click again and click on Paste.

The image no longer appears and what does appear is the URL.

How can I get this to stop and the image, not the URL, to appear in pages?

Is this on a special page? Could you supply an Url so we can do some testing?

I'm not sure its just a Pages '09 thing. I can't reproduce the problem right now. It's possible that the images that do this are not really images but actual links to images.

Perhaps you accidentally selected "copy image address." My Magic Mouse does seem to have a mind of its own & often makes web pages move or selects the wrong thing.

This same issue began just a week ago for my wife, who's running Pages '09 in Snow Leopard. This is part of a workflow she uses regularly, and it has not been an issue until very recently. Indeed, what gets pasted is the image location, not the image itself.

Just for fun, I tried copying an image and pasting it into a NeoOffice document. Fine. Same thing in TextEdit. Fine. I poked around in Pages Settings and the Inspector, but could not find anything relating to the treatment of pasted images. It was then that I searched Apple Support and found this perfect question.

For now, she's pasting into TextEdit, selecting the image from there, and pasting into Pages. It's a strange workaround, but it will do until we find a more permanent fix.

Has she changed her browser and has she tried this in a different browser?

The problem may very well be at the other end.

Yeah, that's it. I tried recreating the issue on my laptop, but the copy and paste works as expected. My wife updated Firefox to 12.0 oh... about a week ago. I'm still running 11.0, so that seems to be the difference in our house, anyway.

So, in Firefox 12.0, "Copy Image" actually means "Copy Image Location" when using Pages '09.

I'll head over to mozilla.org now. Thanks.

    Just use Safari which works.

I encountered a similar problem with Google Chrome but just handled the image differently.

Try saving the image to your desktop that usually gets around the problem.

Thanks!!!  I knew I was not hitting the "Copy Image Location" button.  I will also get with Firefox on this.  I am not the biggest Safari fan.  Many websites I frequent are not compatible and things tend to overlap.  Hopefully, it gets debugged.

Glad you two finally sorted it out.
