Hi,

I just bought an iphone 4s and without realizing restored the backup from my old iphone 3GS.  Now the default apps that came with iphone 4S (Siri, facetime etc) have gone. Is there a way to get them installed into the new phone? Searching in iTunes app store does not help to retrieve these apps.

Thanks

You can't remove default apps from the 4S.  Siri is not an app, you start Siri by holding the Home button.  FaceTime is not an app either.  You use FaceTime  by first turning it on in Settings>FaceTime, and then opening a contact on your phone and tapping the FaceTime button on the lower right.

    You're welcome.

What apps would have fanished during a restore from backup from a 3GS? I did the same and some of the apps seem to have fanished (I didn't note what they were prior restore). I googled a bit to find the default apps on a 4S, but such a list is cleverly hidden within the interweb.

I experienced the same problem as well. Restored my backup data from 3GS to 4s, and it overwritten the new icons with the old ones from 3GS. I am not too sure if I've lost any default apps.

Jgovek: You mentioned the list is hidden in an interweb. Where is this interweb? Please enlighten. Thanks.

I think he meant "internet" not "interweb".  Also, default apps can't be deleted.  If you're looking for a built-in app and can't find it on any of your screens or inside any of your folders, you can go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.  This will restore the home screen to its original configuration but may move other apps around to do so.

Randers4: I see. Thanks for the clarification. I have tried reseting the Home Screen Layout.. and it de-group all my application. I regretted that action, for it took me a long time to re-group them again. Besides, I didn't notice any restoration of any default apps, not at least the ones which 4s came with. I also do not see the Facetime application on my screen.

Check Settings>FaceTime>On and Settings>General>Restrictions>FaceTime>ON. On the 4 & 4S FaceTime is accessed through contacts.  Go into your Contacts, access the contact you want to FaceTime with and you will see a tab at the bottom of their contact card.  You can also access FaceTime by going into your Phone app, select dialling keypad, dial number, press call and an option for FaceTime on the keypad will appear.   It should be noted that FaceTime has been removed from iPhones sold in some Middle Eastern countries at the express wish of the respective Governments.  This article may also be helpful http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4319.

There is no separate FaceTime application on the iPhone. You access FaceTime through an individual's contact information in the Contacts app.

What are the other apps you believe to be missing?

Thanks for the clarification on the Facetime. I couldn't recall which other apps were lost, but my HD 1080p app is no longer on the screen.

There is no separate HD video app. Recording in HD video is a feature of the Camea app.
