Q: What does it mean if the target HD does not show up in the finder or desktop of the host computer, but shows up in the disk utility?

I have started the target macbook pro in target disk mode, and connected the computer to a host computer successfully. However, the HD does not show up on the host computer's desktop or finder, and therefore I cannot retrieve files from it. It DOES show up in disk utility. Any insight? I need files off of this HD today.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Open Finder Preferences. Look under Sidebar to select what appears in Finder's sidebar, and under General to select what appears on the desktop.
