I cannot get my iPhone 4S to bluetooth connect with my iPad2. At one time they were succesfully paired, but then they would not link. So, in an effort to 'start over' I used the 'Forget' option on both devices.  This didn't work, so following advice on other posts on this site I :-

a). Reset both devices using the Home buton & Power button option. (to no effect), then

b). Reset the Netwrok settings on both devices , again to no effect.

So, any ideas on how to remedy this?

Many thanks

Chris

Bluetooth does only connect to supported profiles like hands free, keyboards, headphones and others, see this article for more details:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647

Transferring other data via Bluetooth is only supported by some apps.

Thanks, the two devices were paired at one time , now they are not 'discovering' each other. Both will 'discover' other bluetooth devices.

Again, this has never been a feature of any legit iphone/ipad.

They will only pair from within an app that provides this feature or when tethering (where provided by the carrier).

Other than this, they will not pair.

Sometimes you can pair the two, but there is nothing in their Bluetooth stacks to allow them to do anything. As stated, they require specific apps to use Bluetooth for a specific purpose, such as file transfer by BT.

Thank you , that explains the sitaution a little further ,but I have now worked it out for myself. I wanted to use the Bluetooth option to thether the iPhone would pair with the iPad (they are on different service providers with different coverage) I hadachieved that in the past , and I have just this minute succeeded in pairing them having enabled the personal hotspot!

I'm not great on the terminilogy but it strikles me that there IS a functional Bluetooth pairing between iPhone & iPad.

    Many thanks

The roaminggnome mentioned in his comment that if Personal Hotspot (tethering) was supported by the service provider that the devices could connect over BT for that specific purpose.

Thanks, my problem was not knowing how to do it (or, infact, replicate it!)
