I have a macbook pro early 2008 running X 10.5.8 that has a lost username/password, I do not have the regular setup discs to do a reinstall. when i turn it on what comes up is the sign in screen for X. Version 10.5.8. asking for username and password.

Advice?

I have tried a pair of Imac install discs, version 10.6.2, but nothing loads.

Should I order Snow leopard setup discs online?

The SL Disc would be your best option, but is it asking for a login password, or maybe a Firmware Protection PW?

    Gray Discs are machine specific.

Firmware password protection in Mac OS X ...

It would block usage of all the startup keys, like C, N, T, D, CMD+s, CMD+Option+p+r, CMD +v, Option, and Shift, as well as booting from anything but the Hard Drive.
