Q: Multiple versions of same photo

When using iPhoto for iOS I have noticed that it seems to create multiple versions of an image, even if you just open and view the image.

How can I consoldate these images into one.

I had previously uninstalled the app and I just reinstalled the new update. MY DUPLICATES ARE GONE!!!! I hope it lasts, my faith in Apple products is (cautiously) restored.

I installed the update but the duplicates were still there.  Then I deleted iPhoto from the iPad and reinstalled it. No more duplicates - I hope it stays that way.

After you reinstalled iPhoto, were your edited and favorited photos still there?

Well I unfortunately answered my own question. Reinstalling iPhoto DELETES your edits, favorites, flagged, hides, etc. anything you did in iPhoto will be gone.

I deleted the original version first and then downloaded the newer one.  I don't see the dulpicates upon duplicates that I used to.  I figured that I would loose data like edits so I didn't really use it much until a fix came out. I'll start giving it some use and see how it goes.

I had deleted the app until I saw today that an update was available. So downloaded it again to test. Went into photos and wrote down number of photos. Then edited one and saved it and as usual it updated the library. This is where the dozens of duplicates would show up. But so far am happy to say that the number of photos increased by one instead of hundreds more!  So i edited another and again only an increase of one. So for now it seems to be working. I'll keep using it and see if it continues to work normally. If not I will post again. However I have lost dozens of edited photos when I had to delete the app to get rid of the nearly 20,000 photos it had grown to. So don't trust it entirely, but will try one photo at a time.

I installed the update over the existing install on my ipad. The duplicate photos were still there.

Uninstalling the app and reinstalling it does remove the duplicates, and the new version has not created any new duplicates (yet).

iPhoto is backed up to iCloud, it would be nice to restore just that backup to the device, which should bring in the edits. Maybe a new feature for iOS6?

The Journal I created was still there though, which is weard.

I take back what I said about my faith in Apple, my duplicates are returning. After I installed the update I was back down to 3,000 and as of today I have 5 duplicates of some of the photos for a total of 5,000 photos. Nice try Apple. Did the update work for anyone else?

I uninstalled iPhoto then installed the new version.  Duplicates gone.  Uploaded some new photos to my iMac and lo and behold when I open iPhoto on the iPad I get the 'updating ...' dialogue and duplicates are reappearing.  Conclusion:  The problem is not fixed.

The same bug occurs on iPhoto App for Mac, and even wordt it also happens on iphoto app for iPad. I'm so freaking tired of manually deleting those files every time! I've already tried to uninstall and reinstall iPhoto app and to restore its cache with no success.

Apple is soooo laid back towards the bugs their consumers have been facing, and as always we haven't a decent page in the support session where to fire real bug reports and this really upsets me. Apple phone and on line support is a joke, seriously.

Im having the same issue, and now with the "face" new thing its eating up tons of my hard drive. and you cant turn off this "face" thing? what are these people thinking? honestly I dont get it sometimes. the first person to test the face thing would see how annoying it is. and now its duplicating pictures up to 8 times. I dont understand why its duplicating pictures many times, it doesnt make any sense. Whats so hard about fixing the issue? Its severly annoying. You make enough money apple to have 50 people working to fix this right now! IM sick of it. I had my external HD hookd up and it took 10 years worth of digital photos and made multiple copes of each. Theres some major issues with the MAC. This is my first. I used to always have dell computers or other ones, they had other problems so i couldnt take it anymore. is it that hard to make a reliable computer that works? Im sick of it!!

This issue was fixed for me over a year ago. Couldn't be happier with iPhoto on iOS now.

Same problems here, I cant beleive that Apple will not acknowledge the problem. Is this the biggining of the end for Apple? Maybe its time to go back to PC.
