Depends where you are - consumer law almost certainly gives you more protection than Apple's warranty.
Airports do seem to break down very frequently - I've had several die. I think it's caused by the lack of ventilation but I could be wrong. I usually buy them second hand these days from eBay - interestingly enough these seem to last longer than new ones from Apple. I suspect that's because if they have survived long enough to get on eBay they are the "good" ones.
THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENT AND ADVICE. REGARDS FROM MALAYSIA. IN FACT I NOW BOUGHT A TP-LINK TL-MR3020 AT ONLY US$22.00 NEW FROM COMPUTER SHOP AND IT HAS 3G AND 3.75G BESIDES WIRELESS ROUTER. AS COMPARED WITH AIRPORT EXPRESS THAT COST US$99. SO EVEN IF THEY LAST ONE YEAR IT IS STILL A BETTER DEAL. IT IS EVEN SMALLER THAN APPLE AND SO MUCH LIGHTER AND EASY FOR MY TRAVELING.
