Can I retain my ****@mac.com email address and usage  WITHOUT moving to iCloud?

A brief look on the web into the functionality of iCloud suggests there are issues.

It's my understanding that MobileMe is being turned off and everything must be moved to iCloud or be lost, but apparently you can now move to iCloud without upgrading to Lion. (https://www.me.com/move/)

I'm not sure how this works or if it helps you or not. I'm still learning about it.

If you have now migrated to iCloud from MobileMe, you can still use your email account without using any of the rest of the iCloud features. Indeed you can't use any of the features unless you are using Lion.

To use your iCloud mail account, delete your current account settings from mail preferences and add them back using the Mail Server Information

As I said previously, if you are using a computer that has pre Lion software installed on it you can use your email account once upgraded to iCloud by following the instructions I gave you.
