armadaorage Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Yesterday I purchased a brand new, 3rd gen Apple Tv and since that I've tried without succeding to connect to the internet.

First of all, all the apps that it shows are Computers and Setting, I don't know if this is because I'm not connected to the internet or why.

I typed in everything manually, the IP adress, submask, DNS, everything, and it says that I'm connected to my Belkin router but I have no internet :S

I'm confused, how is that possible? I can stream song from iTunes via airplay but why no internet?

Also, it says in the About section that my Apple Tv is not authorized... how do I do that, or do I need internet for that?

I tried looking up the problem but without any success... I ever reseted everything but nothing...

Can someone please help me?

Thanks in advance!

    1) Are you using a Macbook or iPad?

    2) Do you live in a multi-unit dwelling like an apartment or dorm?

    3) How much do you pay each month for your DSL Internet service?

I am using a MacBook Pro, but what does that have to do with anything?

I live in an apartment building, not a dorm.

I pay about 10 dollars a month for my internet.

Anyway, I don't see how any of those question help or are even related to my question.

The wireless on my Mac works fine, on my PS3 works fine, on my Xbox 360 works fine, but my Apple TV can't seem to connect to it and also where are all the apps? Where is youtube and everything else?

You are right, the questions I asked had little to do with your situation; however, now there's a more clear understanding of your setup etc. I completely realize they we're odd questions but...

    a) Do you have a Cat 5 Ethernet cable that you can use to connect AppleTV to your current router?

    b) If so, can you reset the AppleTV device to factory?

    c) Connect the Ethernet

    c) Unplug the Apple TV power cord ... wait 30 seconds and plug it back in

    d) check if it accesses the Internet

    Disregard.

My sense tells me you only want to connect wireless

OK, I tried a wired setup and imediately connected me to the internet, I got all the apps and everything :S

So why can't I do that wirelessly?

I don't know if you know this or not but....If you are online gaming with your PSIII via WiFi you'll get better performance via Ethernet. The latency caused by WiFi in gaming allows some competitors to respond against you more quickly

With DSL there's a pretty good chance streaming video content will buffer via WiFi

Are you using WEP or WPA2 ?

I am using a wired connecting for my PS3 since it uses the slower wireless-g and wireless for xbox 360.

Anyway, I got a new router yesterday, an Asus Dark Knight, configured everything and it shows that my protection is WPA-auto-personal.

With the Asus Dark Knight all you configured was your POPe User name and password?

You left DHCP, as it defaulted from the factory, set to enabled?

And you input a custom network name or did you leave it at the factory default name? (it does not matter which one you did)

And you assigned a custom password/key to keep strangers out of your network?

So when you utilize the tiny silver handheld remote that comes in the boxes with the AppleTV and get into the AppleTV setup and:

    a) select wireless

    b) input your network name, either the default name of the Asus Dark Knight or the custom one you programmed into the router yesterday

    c) input the Case sensitive custom password/key to keep strangers out of your network

...... you still can't get online via WiFi?

OMG I can't believe it worked!

I unplugged the LAN cable, selected my Asus router in the wireless section, typed in my password and BAM... I'm in, I finally have a wireless connection!

Thank you very much for your help and your patience.

Now to figure out if I can or can't and how can I stream music from iTunes on my Mac to both my apple tv in the living room and my airport express in my bedroom.
