First, are you sure these are mp3 files? Somebody else was just asking about using an ION device and was complaining it only produced WAV. WAV files cannot be tagged.
How did you produce these mp3 files?
What do you mean by "copy across" From where to where? Specific details on how you are trying to do this. iTunes will add artwork to even untaggable files, the artwork just ends up being stored in iTune's artwork database only and not embedded in the file itself. Are you sure the artwork can be added to any file? Have you tried adding it to a file that already contains artwork to see if it can be added to anything?

Thanks for the info - I had thought this might be the probelm, but having used another ION device to copy music over wehre I could add artwork I was unsure. I have just checked the old ION device I was using made the files as 'AAC' and the new device does indeed make them as WAV - I'll try to find a way to covert file to MP3! Thank you.
