Q: iPhone 4 not receiving emails.

My iPhone 4 stopped downloading emails last Friday.  I have never had any problems before and have not changed any settings. I have received several hundred emails since then; I can get them on the PC but not the iPhone? Any suggestions?

Here is what helped fix my issue:

I had a problem where suddenly I couldn't receive incoming emails, then I started receiving some, which were totally random.  I read on a Comcast forum a possible problem and fix. Here it is:

Apparently there may be a corrupt email which has stopped further emails from forwarding to the iphone.  On your desktop computer, open you email web account using the providers website.   Move all of your emails from your Inbox into a subfolder (create a new one if you have to.)  If you have a lot of emails, move the most recent ones to at least the time/date the problem started.  Once you move the emails over,  send yourself a brand new email.  Go back to your iphone and fetch to retrieve your new emails.  The email you just sent should arrive in your iphone Inbox along with any old emails that you did not move over to the subfolder.

This fixed my problem so I hope it works for you all!

This is exactly what the issue was. I figured it out this afternoon and haven't had a chance to come back and post it. After almost a whole month goes by and I stumbled across an email that was in my inbox I had moved to a folder and for some odd reason checked that folder from the iPhone. That is when I new there was something a little strange and that all phone settings were correct.

I created a new folder to move the inbox items into, moved all the emails via Outlook. The phone seemed to still be trying to retrieve 1 email. I logged into the web mail and could see one email. I contacted Go Daddy to try and get it removed because I could not. He put me on hold and reset the sync options on IMAP. I  sent 2 test emails from two separate accounts and got them on the phone, web mail, and Outlook. I moved all emails back into the Inbox and sent myself one more test email from a separate account. Everything seems to be functioning again!!!

Long story short, there was an email from April 12 that the phone was trying to retrieve and it couldn't. Both mail programs on my computer looked right past it. Got rid of that email and had the sync options reset by my email provider and all is good.

I hope this helps someone else out there. It was a major headache to learn it was a stuck email!

Having a related e-mail issue.  All the above happened, did a reset etc.  But all my e-mail folders have vanished and e-mails aren't syncing with my pc.  Very bizarre, have re-set up my e-mail account several times, no dice.  I can receive e-mails and send, but none of my stored folder are there.

I have been shutting down my phone every day or so and it seemed to help with downloading emails.   Otherwise I was deleting and recreating the email account every few days.

But now suddenly for 2 days, the email will not download to the phone no matter how many times I down power it.

So, I tried to hard reset I saw in this forum and the phone is now downloading emails again - THANKS

Thank You so much!  I too had the same problems described including receiving some random emails.I was also receiving old emails that are on my server (now I am not so sure how much I was actually getting) but not new ones. I contacted Apple Support with no resolution and I contacted my email server also with no resolution.  I found this thread online and tried the above fix.  As described I moved the emails from the date I noticed the problem. I could get my own test emails but nothing else.  I then realized that since my phone is new to me, it tries to download the old email messages that are still on my server and I try to clean them out as they come in. I cleaned out my server by moving all of the old messages into a new folder and did the same with my Outlook program (I am set up to sync wirelessly with my computer) and so far have been receiving new emails. It's been a frustrating week so Thank You again!

Thank you this did help me. I had a related problem - I temporarily added an alias to my hotmail and then got no emails to my regular hotmail account  on my phone.  Your post gave me a lightbulb moment - and hey presto went into my email account on my laptop and found all the missing messages in a subfolder.  Moved them back into my main inbox and checked my email account setting so that all messages to my main email address go once more to my hotmail inbox and Ping! Phone icon showed 18 messages.  Sent myself a new test email and everything good.  Problem solved so very grateful to you for your post!

I've been experiencing similar problems over the last week, couldn't receive e-mails; couldn't send any (email address being rejected by server".  My html signature on the bottom of my e-mails was also being blocked.  I contacted my ISP provider and the rep advised that it was "e-mail spoofing" and that simply changing my password(s) on the server account would fix the issue.  Once I changed it and updated it on my laptop, it sent messages immediately and "unblocked" my html signature as well....life is good!

Big thanks for posting this solution, gmail was not downloading on iPhone 4S. Followed your instructions to the letter, launched email on laptop and moved emails to a new folder, did a hard restart on the iPhone, now iPhone gmail is working once again - thanks!

Solved my problem.  I shut down my phone, waited two minutes.  Turned on phone until I saw the apple appear on screen.  Signed in, using my code.  Accessed mail, clicked on inbox and the missing e-mails appeared.  Thank you.
