Exchange email won't load - persistent problem, restart doesn't fix

I'm having a problem with the Exchange account on my iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1).  Gmail and Hotmail both work fine, but Exchange frequently freezes and will not update at all.  Usually restarting the phone fixes the problem, but not this time. I've restarted 3 times to no avail - the account hasn't updated in 15 hours.  Can anyone help? Is there a fix for this?
