Are you sure of the Operating system you list in your signature? (10.5.1)

The 2010 MacBook Air shipped with 10.6.4 in the first release.

I am going to presume with my response that the post contains an error in the version.

Use your included Flash Drive recovery disk to start your Mac. Insert, and then while booting hold down the OPTION key. Then select the flash drive when the list of avaialble bootable partitions comes up. After booting, Launch Disk Utility, and then use the app to repair your disk (select your internal drive, then "Repair Disk"). After running this, run Repair Permissions on the same drive. Shutdown, remove the flash drive and try booting normally.

If the Mac still fails to boot, boot again to the flash drive and then reinstall OS X over the existing version (do not erase first). Thi si called a "repair installation", and may solve your issue.

If in fact it is 10.5.1, that would indicate a first generation Air (2008 model). A 10.5.7 would make it as late as mid 2009 edition. For it to be a 2010 MBA, it would have had 10.6.4, and had a flash drive system recovery disk.

You will need the DVD that is in the box to perform the above described procedures, as well as an external Superdrive (or a compatible DVD drive). Your other option is to take it in to an Apple Store Genius Bar with your disk in hand.

Your Flash Stick was on a card in the box when you bought it. It doesn't look like a thumb drive but rather like a wide match and it isn't very big. you need it or you need to go to an Apple Store with a genius bar and they will help you.

Yours is a late 2008. It should have come with a DVD to repair or reinstall OS X. The disk is amongst the paper pamphets packed in the box.

    Elaine,

If you can still edit your post, please remove the serial number. It is a piece of information that you should not publicize (for your own security). Nonetheless, I have asked a mod to remove it.

I can't seem to delete the last post with the serial number. Oops. I also did not have the disk so hopefully the geek squad will be able to help me when I take it in.  You have been helpbul SP.  I hope someone can delete what should not be showing.
