I WANT TO DISABLE THE LOCK SCREEN CAMERA

You can't. Not without disabling the camera entirely.

And don't shout at us. If you have iOS 5.1, the shortcut is not optional. In iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1, the shortcut would only appear by double tapping the home button. And before you ask, downgrading is not an option.

IT IS A STUPID FEATURE!!! Who on earth thought of it. Why would you need to access your camera while your phone is locked? Too lazy to unlock the phone to take a picture?

Many people complained in the past that by the time they got the phone unlocked, the opportunity for the photo had passed, so Apple apparently listened and added the feature in answer to those complaints. If you want to comment to Apple and offer alternative suggestions and opinions, you can do so via their feedback pages:

I can't tell you how many times I thought the same thing. The problem now is that you cannot disable this feature! So in order for me to toddler proof my phone, I have to disable the camera altogether using restrictions. Now if I want to use the camera myself I would have to unlock the phone, navigate to restrictions, disable restrictions, entering my passcode, find where the camera icon was put (since it doesn't return to the same place it was taken from) and then start the camera. How many photo ops do you think I just missed because of this new feature?

Or, if I don't want to toddler proof my phone, now I have to put it out or reach for me and my toddler. How many phone calls do you think I will miss?

The feature is cool for those that need/want it. The problem is not the feature itself, the problem is not being able to disable it!

    As Varjak says, tell Apple:

I know I shall regret asking, but why does keeping the iPhone out of reach of your toddler imply it must also be out of reach of yourself?

I suppose not comepletely out of reach for me, but not out in the open. I would have to put my phone either on top of a high shelf, which I would need to get on a stoll myself to get to, or in a closet or inside a cabinet. The truth is that I spend most of my time at home in the same room as my daughter, which is the layroom, and there aren't really any places there to put my phone out of reach. Putting it our of reach for her would mean missing phonecalls myself.

This is beyond this topic of discussion, really and I'm sorry. My daughter had gotten used to the fact that if she did get a hold of my phone she couldn't do anythig with it. Now she's learned that she can take pictures if she gets a hold of the phone and it's a fight every time she "finds" my phone, because now she wants to be able to take pictures and it's tiring having to take it away from her, deal with the crying and screaming and also have to punish her for the offense. Again, this is getting way off topic.

My opinion on the actual topic of this discussion is that this "feature" shouldn't have been imposed on me, I should've been given a way to disable this feature. It was, in my opinion, not well thought out by apple and I really think we should get a new update that allows us to disable it. (already told apple what I thought, thank you).

Just put it in your pocket....

And explain to your daughter that it is not a toy.

I strongly recommend you not continue with a discussion on parenting strategies. In every case I've seen, it just causes hard feelings and degenerates into an argument. Let's please keep this discussion strictly to technical issues.

    Regards.

Thank you for trying to help me fix my problem, but my phone doesn't fit in my pocket, it always activated the Voice commands when I try.

I don't know if you have children, but with my child, as well as a lot of other kids I know, it's not as simple as explaining that it's not a toy, especially when she's seen that there are games in it.

I take it you like this feature. That's fine, it's a nice feature, I just don't want it and I should've been given the ption to disable it. I'm not the only person that thinks that way, just like I' not the only person that has allowed her/his child play with an app on the phone and taught them that if the phone was locked, it was not time to play with the app. It adds a level of complication that I didn't need.

I have three "children", totalling over 120 years worth.

Needless to say, when they were toddlers we only worried about them changing between the three TV channels available....

I appreciate your point, but your  solution is not within the technology. Bigger pockets might do it?

The new 3-d tv's have been programmed to show 2 channels at once, consider

I fail to understand how this is not? Usability is compromised and we are having issues. This is due to the usage issues. I too have this issue. I am spending a huge amount of time clearing unnecessary 100s of photos from album. Apple has not thought about this through.
