I have the original Macbook Air. I have never updated the operating system. Apple wants me to upgrade, so I can move over to the cloud.
They sent me the disc, pictured above, and it starts to load and never fully does so. I click the install icon, it bounces on my dock and then disappears.
Should I just take it to a store?

Might be easiest, but just let me be sure what's happening.
You're running the disc in an external SuperDrive I presume.
Are you booting from the disc (holding down the opt key on start up and choosing the DVD from the startup manager), or are you just mounting it on the desktop as a normal DVD and trying to run it from there?
You really need to be booting from the DVD, then after the language screen, ignore the installer for a minute and open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu at the top of the screen. Use that to verify/repair the internal HD.
If that comes up ok, quit DU and continue the installation. (or try to).
