I live in Canada and will be travelling to China for a few weeks.  I do not have a data plan on my iphone4 but should i be worried about roaming when i turn my iphone on? My enable 3G and Cellular Data options are always off since i use wifi only.

Also will I be able to receive calls from Canada even if I am in China? I'm expecting an important call back in Canada so I hope the call would reach me by just dialing my local cell # normally..

Thanks in advance!

You will get roaming charges for all calls sent or received. Check with your service provider before traveling to confirm what charges you will entail.

That will only happen if you get International Provisioning activated for your account BEFORE you go to China. This requires you picking a roaming plan to use in China. You need to contact your carrier & set this up BEFORE you leave on your trip.

    Not usually.

These are questions that you should be directing to your local service provider.

    It is a free call.

Point is that not all service providers treat things the same way. Explain to your service provider where you are going and what you need to be able to do.

If you need to make calls back home and the iPhone is unlocked then you should be able to get a local pre-paid micro-SIM. The calls will be much cheaper to Canada that way then using your home service provider. Typical call rates from US providers are $1.99/minute and up. If you have the correct calling plan then it can get much cheaper.

Your service provider can tell you all this or you can research the rates via their web site.

The information that you can get from the forums is general in nature for these types of questions.

If you don't get your account provisioned properly, no calls will come through, because you won't have any service.
