Try this. Sign out, restart and sign in again.
Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID - tap your ID and sign out, restart your iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and sign in again. See if that helps.
You can also try rebooting your router - unplug it for about 39 seconds and then plug it in again.

Sign out of your Apple ID (Settings, Store, Apple ID)
Do a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!
Sign back in and try again!

Do you by any chance have a stalled download in iTunes on the iPad - a song or podcast that did not completely download? Check in there to be sure. If you have a stalled download in iTunes, that could cause this issue with the apps.
Finish that download and then try to update the apps.

See if you can delete the download - tap and hold down on the icon (if there is an icon) to see if the X to delete pops up. Or try swiping across the progress bar and see if the red delete button pops up.

I managed to delete one of them, and managed to swipe the bar a cross but this did not evoke the pop up. You know your stuff buddy but this ***** and budging, I will try and resolve this via PC. I just hope this is the issue.

If you can finish the download in itunes, restart the iPad before you try to update the apps again. Tap only one Loading icon as well.
IF .... and I stress IF - all goes well - the downloads should start on their own - after you unclog the download pipe by finishing or deleting the stalled TV show.
