Yes it looks like that, (10.5.1) after initial install.
I was able to get updates working too 10.5.7
but ever place I tried to find a MacOSXUpd10.5.8 the disk image always fails to verify.
I have downloaded that file and the combo update many times now, none seem to be valid from the net.
As best as I can determine from other similar posts is the dmg gets corrupted during download.
Whenever the OS gets updated, I always download the update & install off-line. The 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
Something to try.
Boot in Safe Mode. See What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X)
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392 Takes a while to run, but it usually "fixes" problems.
Then download the combo update and install while in safe mode.
