Everything you said sounds like it should work. Have you tried just importing one instead of all to see if it works?
Also, how many are you importing? I know when I'm importing a lot it takes a bit to get it going.

You seem to be doing it right. When the pics & movs appear as thumbnails on the iPad screen, are you tapping the ones you want to import. Then tap Import All.
As an alternative just import the pics. If that works, then import the movies. Could be a format problem with the .mov

Hi Skydiver119 and Tom
There are about 900 photos, but even importing just one photo or video does not work. It seems to be stuck, and I can't even "stop importing". I had to pull out the drive.
Any other suggestion?
So frustrating because it's like there, but you can't import it, especially after I spent a long night trying to import using Photo Stream! (It sorta work but don't know why the vertical 16:9 photos are cropped. So annoying)
Should have just imported it directly from the camera, but I accidently formatted it and the only copies I have is in the thumbdrive.

Have you tried resetting the iPad? Hold down the home and sleep keys, past the red slider, until you see the silver apple and let it reboot. Maybe it got 'stuck' and can't unstick itself. resetting gives it that opportunity.
