You should run an Apple Hardware Test http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509 by pressing "D" at startup to check if Hardware.
Also try starting your computer on Target Disk Mode http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661 if you have another computer you can connect with firewire. This helps to partition almost all the time with no problems.

I tried the first option and that didnt work. As for the second option, I don't have a firewire to do that. But what I did just awhile ago was use my newer macbook's hard drive and tested it on the macbook that is having problems and it worked perfectly fine. So I know for sure that it is something with the hard drive. I'll most likely have to purchase a new one. Thank you though for the help, I really appreciate the time you took to help.
