I have a problem with my new 13" macbook air.

Randomly the screen gets grey and a sign prompts me to restart.

What is wrong?

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

    Sound like a kernal panic.

Is this a brand new machine?  Have you installed any additions?

Normally it would worth persuing diagnosing this.  But if this a brand new machine take it to apple to fix it.

yes it is new, but I have added som new programs.

I agree that it sounds like kernel panic.

    How can I diagnose further?

Post the filenames from the following places:

    your login items

    ~/Library/LaunchAgents (in your home directory)

    /Library/LaunchAgents

    /Library/LaunchDaemons

    /Library/StartupItems

And open terminal and copy/paste the following line:

    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '

Hit return and post the output from that command as well.

    home  has no library

Yes it does.  But you are running lion so you can't see it.  Use finder Go menu, Go To Folder.  Type ~/Library/LaunchAgents and the finder will open that folder.

This is your new machine, and you certainly didn't waste any time installing who know what!.

I am not sure what sotfare insalls all that "ZTE" related stuff but I would suggest you uninstall it as a first test.

Iwill come back with more files from my home folder.

The ZTE stuff must be related to my 4G modem.

Hi, tried to do as you said, but it just says that the file could not be found. Even if I search for just library it cannot be forund.  In my home folder

    X423424X Level 6 Level 6 (14,190 points)

This is getting off topic.  But if you use the Go To Folder and type just ~/Library I guarantee you it will find that.

You have so much installed I am no sure what to suggest first and I am not too surprised you crash.  I am also having a problem seeing what goes with what.  So do it a different way.  All terminal commands.  Copy/paste each one and and post the results along with the command:

    ls -l ~/Library/LaunchAgents

    ls -l /Library/LaunchAgents

    ls -l /Library/LaunchDaemons

    ls -l /Library/StartupItems

    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '

And post the names of your login items again.

    Hi,

Do not know where to find my login items.

Anyway, sending you the result of terminal commands.

also sending you pictures of all installed programs. most of them ar Lion Stuff that I do not need, but cannot remove.

    Again sending the library files.

Have seen on forums that other people also have kernel panic with Air and Lion.

Thank you for being so helpful.

    Regards

    Peter

Do not know where to find my login items.

Open System Preferences, Accounts, click your account on the leftm and click the Login Items tab on the right.  The panel below will show all your login items.

Showing all your apps doesn't help.

Just so I have this documented in a readable form here I am reposting the terminal output below:

I don't know where to start since you added so much stuff to your machine all of which are potential suspects.

First try running without any of them and your login items.  Do that by booting in safe mode.  You may have some problems running that way since none of the above stuff is running and who knows what you need it for.

Another test would be to boot normally but log into another account.  You use your Accounts system preferences to create additional accounts.  The above stuff will then be running but not your login items.

I'm also inclined to suggest get rid of all that zte stuff.  I have no idea what that goes with and I hope there's an uninstaller to get rid of it all.

    Hi X423424X,

ZTE stuff is the software for a T Stick / USB Modem..   He won't be able to get online without it..

    It does have an uninstaller.

Just a note though I didn't use it because it's normally 32 bit..

Need to boot holding down the 3 and 2 keys..

Sierra wireless has 64 bit lion software for at least some of their USB modems...
