You'll have to locate the appropriate preference file for Word, make the setting on your administrator machine (or on another workstation and copy the preference file to your ARD admin system so you can then copy it to the other workstations), and push out the preference file to the appropriate location. I'm guessing that the preference file will be com.microsoft.Word.plist - I see a setting for 2008 Save\Default Format which may be that setting - but I haven't experimented with Word 2008, and I can't see an obvious equivalent for Word 2011. You'll probably need to ask in Microsoft's forums for the correct preference file and setting.

Paw offers a valid option.
Another option would be MCX. It's built into the mac operating system, and it's desgined to manage settings on computers. You would still need to find the prefrence file, and the setting, and deploy the setting. Deployment could be done by ARD send unix command.
FYI if you have a directory server, like an open directory, it's make prefrence management much easier to do.

Thanks for the replies.
I do have a SL management server running in a magic triangle environment, yet for various reasons my management is limited to a few items.
I'm hoping someone else has already done the work for me and I can simply follow some easy to follow steps... If this doesnt pan out, I'll ask elsewhere or figure it out myself and post solution back here.

If anyone comes across this thread looking for an answer, here it is.
Basically what I was told:
That particular setting is stored in the following file:
- /Users/USER_NAME/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Word.plist [likewise for PowerPoint and Excel]
However, be aware that you'd also be replacing several customizations that they may have, as well as other parameters (like last folder used). Perhaps it would be better to access each machine, load up Word and set whatever setting you want through the Screen Sharing feature.
