You will need to synch the iPad with iTunes and initiate the update from there.

Use the computer you normally sync with. Then start iTunes on that computer. Use the menus in iTunes to check for an update. If there is an update for iTunes then download and install it. Then restart your computer.
Next start iTunes on your computer and connect your iPad. In the left column of iTunes on your computer select your iPad. I the right column of iTunes select Summary and then Check for Updates.
You will be instructed on ow to update the iOS to 5.1
