screen display - any document, web page, email, etc suddenly appears much smaller (approx 50%) on my screen. This is not a function of using the min/max buttons. How do I restore default settings

Does it correct itself if you press the F3 function key at the top of the keyboard? If yes then you've enabled the Mission Control feature.

F3 does not correct this - it did toggle the window a few inches, but did not restore to its orig size - thanks but still need a fix here

Does pressing the command key while pressing the + key one or more times make any difference?

Could you post a picture of the display so we get a better idea of the issue you are experiencing?

Are all open documents/windows affected at the same time, or is it only the document/window that you are working in?

pressing the command key enlarged (magnified) the contents of the window, but did not increase the actual size of the window itself. I do not know how to post a pic of the display itself. Any, & all documents/windows appear to be effected - not sure how this happened but it was not a result of experimenting w/settings - just occurred from nowhere - evidently.  thanks again ...

What happens if you reset the parameter RAM by restarting the system while holding down the command-option-P-R keys. Keep the keys held until you hear the system restart twice. For more information on the PRAM reset you can read the following document.

I viewed the reference & do not think a reset applies. My version is Mac OS X V. 10.6.8.  I cannot find anything in system preferences that allows choices or optoions for setting window size. My screen is 21' apple monitor & previously the default window filled approx 75-80% of available space -- now it has been reduced to about 50%.

I disagree that a PRAM reset isn't appropriate, but that is your choice. It is a normal troubleshooting step.

It's very hard to provide suggestions without seeing the issue or knowing anything about your configuration, steps performed prior to the issue occurring, etc.

Your last comment has me confused about the system you are using. You mentioned that you have a 21' Apple monitor. Does this mean that you are using an iMac with an external Apple 21" display, or are you saying that you have an Apple iMac with the 21.5 inch display?

If you open the Apple System Preferences and click on Displays, what is the selected resolution? Are there higher resolution options available in the list? If yes, please select the maximum resolution listed which should be the native resolution of your display.

I am using apple iMac w/21.5' display. I will review document again but it appeared that it was a fix for earlier versions. I did check the resolution and found that the largest is already selected. Thanks again ...
