Normally for this you haft to go onto the laptop that you put your iPad on and change it that way then it should change it automatically

You can sign in and out of your account in Settings>Store>Apple ID if that is what you mean. Sign out of the old account in there and then sign in with the new ID.

Why it' so hard for someone to do a simple search on a topic that's been asked and answered hundreds of times is beyond me....

My account shows the new apple id and password but when I go to buy from the store the old id comes up. I don't want to reset the old ID, I just want it to go away.
Is there anything else I need to do to get the store to forget the old ID?

You did try signing out of the old ID on the iPad in the settings? In iOS 6 it is Settings>ITunes & App Stores>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out, and sign in with your new ID.
When it comes time to update apps that you bought with the old ID, you still have to use that ID and password in order to update those apps because purchased content is always tied to the ID used to buy it.

How do you sign out on the old ID on the iPad in the settings? Tap your ID and sign out? I don't get it.

Go to Settings -> Itunes & App Stores
Tap on your Apple Id, and then on Sign Out.
How is that difficult?

OK, I did that but I still can't order anything from the iTunes store. I need more iCloud storage and cannot get it. When I try to buy something the big blue box comes up with my OLD Apple ID on top with no way to change it, and space to enter my password. I don't need or want to change my password, I need and have changed my Apple ID.
