Thanks for the tip - the card was locked, but unlocking it didn't help. I tried other devices in my USB port (like my iPhone) and they get picked up just fine by the system (these are, of course, Apple devices so...). Have no real idea what I did to cause the system to fail to recognize the camera card, nor how to fix it - have tried multiple memory cards in the ScanDisk reader.......
I am having the same problem. I have been downloading photos from my Canon Digital Rebel XT to my Macbook (currently OS X 10.6.8) for several years without a problem, and it has suddenly stopped working. (My last successful photo download was April 18.)
I've replaced the cord between the camera and the laptop and have tried several new CF cards. I've also tried using a card reader. I've reset the PRAM. I tried creating a new user profile and seeing if it showed under the new user. (Someone on another post had suggested this.)
None of these things has worked.
My USB ports are both working fine for my iPhone, iPod, iPad and flash drives, and they are also working for my daughter's Canon Photoshot camera. (I was able to download photos from her camera.)
IPhoto doesn't recognize that my camera (or the card reader) is connected. Neither does Image Capture. Neither does System Profiler.
It seems unlikely I have three bad cords. There are so many variables I'm completely bewildered and would appreciate any help.
