First of all here is a summary of my history.

I always been a PC user with windows. Then one year ago, I bought an IPad and loved it.

Before that I never had no interest in Apple products but the IPad changed my mind. Then I bought a Apple Mini that's fit in my budget.

I loved the OS Lion and the interface but it seems that only apple devices works good with apple machines.

Today a headset Philips arrived to my home and quess what? Its not work properly with my apple mini. I plugged

the 2 cables on the appopriate place but I can only hear the sound the microphone does not work.

Im really sad with this because I tested this device on my notebook with Windows 7 and its worked perfectly.

Now, I want to get my English class online and I can not simply because my apple mini does not work with just a standard device. This is very frustrating and if I could I would return this PC to Apple and buy a PC with the Windows. I really sorry about that. If someone want to know the device is a SHM1900 Stereo headset.

Sorry to hear, I know nothing about it, have you checked System Preferences>Sound to see if the microphone is an input choice?

Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there?

I was searching on the internet and I discovered the problem. The problem is that Apple Mini doest have a Mic in. In others words, there's no amplification. Its really really frustrating because almost all devices like this need a mic in, I dont want to buy a USB device because my USB ports are all busy with other devices. I will call to the resseller and try to return this product,Is to much trouble just to run a simple device like this.

    Thanks for repply.

Please keep your Mini - you'll find Audio In on this picture, lower Left:Screen shot 2012-05-08 at 3.49.58 PM.png

Macs have never in the history of Apple used cheap little computer Mics that folks use with PCs. Macs have always used Mics which provide line level audio input. You may be disappointed with your Mac mini, but the issue is that you need to stop making assumptions about how Macs do or do not function and do a little reasearch before you jump to conclusions and buy 3rd party products that do not function with a Mac.

    "

So do you think your answer help something?

So if we are new mac user we you opnions are nothing for Apple ?  Theses "cheap little computer Mics" work perfectly on other computers why not in an apple?

To finish, Im just a new user trying to enter to the apple family and a user like you think we are idiots?  No my friend we aren't. For sure I will return this micro, thats a good one, but not for me able to buy only cheap mics, and sorry about my english, I will improve it now using my new mic on my old computer with Windows Vista.

I don't know if this would work for you or not but maybe it is worth a shot.  You mentioned you don't want a USB device because all your USB ports are taken.  Maybe you could get a USB hub to get yourself some additional ports.  It's possible you might even be able to use your existing headset with an analog->USB converter connected to a USB port on the hub.

Just a thought in case this helps... this is probably what I'd try if I were in your situation.

Sorry that you think that offering you the truth is not helpful. Perhaps you can post questions in this forum in the future and ask about 3rd party products before you buy them. Often if the developer does not specifically state that something is Mac compatible, it is best not to buy it. But if you post questions about the product here before you buy it, folks can tell you their experience with it.

I think I know the kind of mic he wants to use - they go

from USB to RCA Red/White. So as you say he can

multiply his USB ports for as low as $5.97 on Amazon

with a little Belkin guy that I've used and given as gifts -

it adds 3 USB ports and is bus powered

    Good luck, Tom

Vinicius, Sound volume is built in to your Mini. See

System Preferences: Sound, as per this

True, Mini only has an input for one. Excuse me I thought you

had one in mind already or had bought one. I don't know of

computers that come with mics in the box any more although

Apple has at times included them. The reason I though you

might have on is your mention of a headphone. It made me

think of a combination headphone/mic that I had for Skype

voice calls. Have you thought about getting a combination

mic/camera for around $25? That way when you want one

for FaceTime or Skype video calls you're good to go.
