Does an airport express ever die?  I am getting a green steady light, but weak signal.  I then decided to check my network using airport utility to makesure everything is up-to-date and working.  When I check, I get a message that I must us airport utility 5.6 to configure/manage the device.  I have one other airport express and an airport extreme and they are working great and I am getting good info about them in airport utility (I am using v 6.0).  The device in question is probably 8 years old while the other devices are about 1.5 years old.

Thanks!

Download AirPort Utility for Lion here: AirPort Utility 5.6.

Do they ever die... yes, but 99% of failures are accompanied by a dark LED. With an odd problem like yours I think a "hard reset" is justified. Press and hold the tiny recessed reset button for a long time - a full ten seconds - until the LED flashes amber rapidly. If you reset it properly the Express's SSID reverts to "Apple Network xxxxxx".

Configure it from new using the AU version 5.6 that you just downloaded.
