Jay, how old is your Wi Fi router? I struggled for some time with similar issues and decided it was my router becoming less compatible with my more modern devices. Two ideas: Check to be sure your wireless router has all the latest firmware updates. (For my old Belkin router, Belkin provided free telephone support and had several firmware upgrades i needed to install manually.) The other idea is to do a hard reset of the router. (On my old Belkin router that involved inserting the end of a paper clip into a tiny hole in the router.
If your router is not from Apple, you might just spend the money to purchase one. It seems reasonable to expect Apple products to work better with other Apple products, and found that to be the case with their wireless routers. Their routers are reasonably enough priced that I found it not worth the fight to get my non-Apple router to work. Lame reason to spend more money, to be sure, but worth it in the end in my view.

I was having an issue with my fairly new iphone 4s not automatically connecting to my home wifi. Three other iphone users in the house were not having this problem. I would have to manually connect each time I got home and then again after my phone went into sleep mode. VERY FRUSTRATING!! This problem started suddenly one day without making any changes so it was very odd to me.
I did all that Apple told me to do and nothing fixed the problem. I was absolutely certain I had a defective phone. After doing some research here is what FIXED my problem.
I reset my Netgear router and updated the router firmware. (I don't think this fixed it but needed to be done)
I CHANGED THE CHANNEL OF MY ROUTER (under wireless settings) to channel 9 instead of auto. (I just picked a number)
So ultimately I think the problem was interference on the channel that my router was picking.
Good luck and I hope my resolution may help you too.

I just posted my experience with a similar issue to this. I believe to solution to my issue was regarding the Wireless security.
