I have the chance to get a Logic board to replace one with an intermittent graphics fault. It is a 2.33 Ghz while the existing one is 2.4. They have identical specs apart from speed and the 2.33 one works...)

Would this be worth trying?

How do you know that the 2.33 GHz mother board is good?

How do you know that it will physically fit your MBP and be compatible?

Have you faith and confidence in the person who will do the installation?

    Ciao.

Besides the points raised by my esteemed colleague, a very tricky problem happens when recycling logic boards. The CPU and GPU have to be thermally bonded to the chassis for cooling purposes, and this may damage the chips when removing them from the original computer. Which is why all those boards on eBay are always as-is, no warranty whatsoever.

Is the size of the two logic and/or main boards likely to be vastly different between the two MacBook Pro's?

I'm looking to transplant the main board into a new shell, that has no damage, and a keyboard that works...

If you have patients, I'd think about it. If you don't want to mess around, and possibly need to purchase a new machine. Do not, just continue with the same processor.

Strangefocus, are you and ikell Siamese twins?

Is the size of the two logic and/or main boards likely to be vastly different between the two MacBook Pro's?

Different logic boards that were released at the same time in otherwise similar MBP models (e.g. two 15" MBPs released simultaneously with different-speed CPUs) are sometimes interchangeable. Boards that were released at different times may have different screw hole locations, different cable connectors in different locations, slightly different processor locations, orientations and heatsink interfaces, even different ports and port locations.

Be aware that if you replace your logic board with one from another model, the discs that were shipped with your machine are not likely to be willing to install anything on the hybrid MBP. Nor will the discs that were shipped with the machine the logic board came out of. Nor will the Apple Hardware Test for either machine run, in all likelihood. These may be minor concerns if you have a retail OS X installer for a newer OS version than the one on the original discs (such an installer should work fine), and you have an Apple Store or authorized service provider nearby who can do hardware testing for you if you should ever need it.

Patients? What, is there a doctor in this thread?

I take it thats a no then.

Many thanks, from all of us, the patient, the doctor and the Siamese twins.
