Is there a way to change a share name in lion server? For example, I have a folder on my disk named "Sophos Anti-Virus" that I want to share via AFP. However, I want to share name to be simply "Sophos". I know I was able to do this somehow in 10.5 Server, but I can't seem to find a way to do it in Lion.

In Server.app, select the File Sharing service. Select the share you want to edit from the list. Click the gear menu and select "Edit Share Point...". You can edit the name in that panel.

I tried that, and maybe I'm just missing something obvious here, but I don't see any way to change the name in that panel. The current name is listed at the top in bold, unchangable text, and I don't see anywere else that the name could even possibly be changed.

    Hi

A way of doing this would be to launch the Server App and select the File Sharing Service. Select the share point and click the 'minus' icon to remove the share.

Obviously warn users they should save any data they are accessing and to disconnect from the share first.

Once the share has been removed from the File Sharing Service navigate to the folder in the Finder and change the name. Go back to the File Sharing Service and click the 'plus' icon and re-add the newly named share.

    HTH?

The field marked with the red arrow should be editable. This should change the name of the share point visible to the users.

Interesting. Yes, that does appear to be exactly what I am looking for. The only problem is, I don't appear to have that field. This appears to be the case with all my shares, not just this one. I wonder why?

Facinating. I can't figure out how to get a share point into that state. All of mine are editable. Is your user account an admin user?

I guess I'd try Tony's suggestion... delete and re-create the share.

Yep, I am indeed an administrator. I even tried logging in as root in case there was some weird permissions problem, but it didn't change. Perhaps this has soemthing to do with the machine being a Directory Master? I looked at one of my other servers and it did, in fact, have the edit box you showed, so it is definitly something different about this machine/setup. I was hoping to avoid changing the actual folder name, but it looks like I'll have to. Thanks for the suggestions!
