I recently purchased a Macbook Air 11" (July 2011 model) which came preinstalled with Lion (can't remember the version) and iLife 11.

On my first boot I noticed that the Mac App Store popped up a few updates and one of the updates was iPhoto 9.2.3. When I attempted to install the update, I was prompted to first update my Mac OS as the update was not applicable to my (then) Mac OS version.

I promptly updated my Lion version to 10.7.3 through Software Updates and attempted the iPhoto update again - nada! Mac App Store now says: "This update is not available", "You Must have previously purchased this item ..." and then prompts me to 'buy' the item (iPhoto 11?).

I haven't clicked on the 'buy' button in the fear of being charged to my linked Apple ID account and I am wondering why I am supposed to buy iPhoto when my MBA came preinstalled with iLife 11.

What am I missing here? Appreciate the help with this!

You must accept the iLife apps that were preinstalled on your Mac into your Mac App Store (MAS) account. You should have found the iLife apps listed in the MAS Purchased pane with Accept buttons. Until you have accepted them into your account you cannot update them.

Ah! that helped, thank you very much. I wish the error message was more helpful and indicated this though.

And how do you "accept" the iLife apps in the Mac App Store? It seems to me the problem is that I owned the iLife suite with my old MB Pro (bought it on CD). I then made a transfer of all my applications from my old MB Pro to the new MB Pro Retina, which already included the iLife suite. Now, the App store thinks that I did not buy the iLife suite.

Denis - you seem to have a different problem (from that explained in the original thread). You seem to have two copies of iLife - one that came with your MB Retina and one that you 'moved' from your old MB Pro. If you'd like to 'accept' the iLife that came with your Retina MB, go into the Mac App Store, in the 'Purchases' Pane, you should see iLife listed with an option to 'accept' the software.

Unfortunately, the iLife application is not available to accept in the App store. I went yesterday to the Genius Bar. The guy sent my problem to the "iTunes team". They are actually communicating with me about this problem.

New MBPro Retina, at initial start I used the UptoDate and updated to Mountain Lion. Now I see iPhoto and iMovie needing an update but I get the message: "You have updates available for another account" Not sure what account that is, I am logged in to my App Store account with the same Apple ID I used to buy apps for iOS and the same ID is used to download Mountain Lion.

I have the same issue. I have these two updates but cannot get them to download. I went into the App Store and when I went to purchases, iLife is not listed. I have a brand new Macbook Pro Retina. Any ideas?

I went to the Genius Bar, they did not know what to do. They redirected me to the App Store Customer Service. After a couple of email exchanges, the gave me App Store codes for the iLife App. Now, I hope they will do the same fot the iWork suite that I installed from a CD (thrown away with the box).
