Q: until this weekend I hadn't had a problem between outlook and iCloud.  Over the weekend it stopped receiving email and when testing the account it would not work

I've been using Outlook 2010 with MobileMe and more recently iCloud for several years (iCloud for several months).  Until this weekend the experience was without issue (except months ago when i installed iCloud on my PC ARRGGG). 

 

Over the weekend something changed and i can neither send nor receive email on outlook via iCloud.  Outlook keeps bouncing back asking for the user ID and Password but i've changed nothing.  I can't figure it out.  I've checked the ports, ensured SSL is selected, tried TSL, read dozens of pages, deleted the account and tried to recreate it but it will just not work.  Has anyone had a similar solution that could offer advice other than http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864 which provides ports and general instructions?

    If your password does not meet these requirements change it so that it does:

     

    Minimum of 8 characters, including at least 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter and 1 number, no special characters.

     

    Verify that you are using the correct server credentials:

     

    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:

    • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 993
    • Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password

      

    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:

     

    • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 587
    • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
    • Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password

     

    Note: If you receive errors using SSL, try using TLS instead.

    Additional Information

    SSL is required for both IMAP and SMTP connection with iCloud. POP is not supported by iCloud.

    First, the icloud applet is worthless.  I don't understand why they even bother putting crap like that out ther if it isn't going to work. 

    when i follow the first and last links below, which are the same, i receive the error an encrypted connection to your mail server is unavailable. blah blah blah.

     

    second, thanks for the basics but i've tried this as well as other settings for the imap servers including p01-imap.mail.me.com and p06-imap.mail.me.com and so on. Same for Outgoing.  

    I've followed instructions and tested from sights inlcuding:

    and no matter what all that comes up is the box showing:

    and just to make sure this is clear i can log into iCloud for email via a browser so it is not a password issue.

     

    I have installed other accounts including exchange and gmail, plus others to make sure it wasn't the number of accounts and they all work,  SBC, ATT(Yahoo mail), rocketmail. no problems with any of them only Apple.

     

    I called apple for support and they wanted 60.00 for something that should be simple to setup.  It is completely inexcusable.  I've been screwed by them for several years for the redicilious excesss could space on me.com and they move to icloud and not won't help.  really. 

     

    I would understand if it weren't such a broad problem as you see from various sites

    I pay microsoft nothing for 6 months and 6.00 a month after that for a full suite of products and they provide support.  the reason, well, we have to install some software on your machine and remote access.  Again, microsoft helped for free.  I called google and they offered free help as wlll although i didn't need it.

     

    Apple, you are a seriously disappointing me.

    Follow the instructions exactly

     

    smtp.me.com is wrong, so that makes all the rest of your settings suspect, these numbers work for me and all of clients stuck with Outlook (which is a piece of junk) so I suspect user error (and from your posting that you are using smtp.me.com) in your case I know it s user error.

    before commenting it is always a good idea to ensure you make an informed statement.  I dont know why you would make a comment like this without reading the (and understanding) the post. If you will reread you will see I have tried a number of servers, including those made in your earlier post which i appreciate but had already tried, but smtp.me.com is not one of them.  Server imap.mail.me.com and smtp.mail.me.com were two I used.

     

    I reset my pwd and removed a non alpha numeric.  That seemed to fix the issue.  so user error it was not.  Apple suggests using complex pwds with nonstandard characters.   These work fine in a browser but their IMAP seems to have a problem with it.

    It now does not, I could have been wrong and for that I apologize, however

     

    These are Apple's requirements for an iCloud acceptable password, complete with a link to Apple's documentation.

     

    When creating a new Apple ID to use with iCloud, the password must have at least 8 characters, a number, an uppercase letter, and a lowercase letter. Learn more about creating a secure password here.
