If you have an eMac, the highest OS level possible is 10.5.8 Leopard, and then only if your processor is 1Ghz or faster. Snow Leopard 10.6 and Lion 10.7 require an Intel processor, which cannot be retrofitted to an eMac.

So we know more about it...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, report the version of OSX from that window, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...

I concur with everyone.
If your eMac is, at least, 1.0 Ghz CPU or better, you would have to upgrade your OS to OS X 10.5.8 Leopard.
Minimum OS X requirement for the Apple Airport Express is OS X 10.5.8.
You may need to purchase black retail version discs to upgrade to OS X 10.5 Leopard.
These are very hard to find now and can be expensive.
If your eMac OS can be upgraded, you could try this source for the version of OS X you'll need.
