I just got my phone on Wednesday and the back already shattered. Don't I have 14 or 30 days or whatever to "return" it or get it replaced some how? Do I need to go to the Apple store to do so or go to Verizon?

iPhone 4, iOS 4

You can't return a damaged iPhone for payment credit, and accidental damage is not covered under the standard warranty.

If you purchased the AppleCare extended warranty, the extended warranty covers an exchange under warranty that includes accidental damage with a $50 deductible. You can use this twice during the two year extended warranty period.

You need to go to an Apple store to determine your options.

Sorry, you own it...there is no return for user damaged goods. If you purchased insurance, that might cover this, otherwise you're out of luck. Also, your warranty is voided. You can get an out of warranty replacement for an iPhone 4S for $199. Other models are $149. You go to an Apple store.

You can't at this point. You have no warranty & AppleCare is no longer available to you.

If you wreck your car and you don't have insurance, you can not purchase insurance after the fact and have it pay for the damage you did when you wrecked it in the first place. Why do you think AppleCare would be any different?

Besides which, only AppleCare+ will allow for a discounted replacement in case of damage and it is only available for the 4S, not the 4. You would be in the same boat now even if you'd purchased AppleCare to begin with.
