Photos that were synced from your computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from on your computer and then re-syncing - you can only delete photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc directly on the iPad.

Seriously, all this technology and no trash can?!?!Someone, please, make an app for that! What a pain this is. Not to mention accidental sync replaced my loaded albums and hogged up all my free space. Apple, you can do better.
