To all blaming Clarion on this issue (myself included):
Samsung Galaxy S-II
LG Optimus 3D
Sony Ericsson Xperia arc
Win7 Mobile based:
HTC Titan II
Nokia Lumina 900
Samsung Focus Flash
How come ALL OF THE ABOVE (sorry for the caps) works with this Clarion FZ-709 unit, just the "incredible", "amazing", "revolutionary" and "mighty" iPhone don't?
Seriously it is not Apple's fault?
I've personally paired all of the above phones (from my coworkers) to the Clarion unit and ALL of them worked flawlessly - contacts paired included in some devices, a feature it was NEVER implemented by Apple. I've personally submitted bug reports for ALL beta releases since first 5.0 beta 1 about this issue, and I've NEVER got a reply besides the automated respose.
And heck, where is anyone from Apple on this thread?
This is a shame. Seriously.

Add me to the list...
I've been using the FZ709 with iOS 4 for about a year and a half.
4 days with the iPhone 4S/iOS 5...4 days without BT on the FZ709.
Gotta love Apple's "updates"!

Add another to this list.
Purchsed the Clarion FZ709 a couple of days ago at a crazy sale and just installed it today. Thought it could be a good unit but "yes" my iPhone 4s will not connect by Bluetooth for more than a second or two? Has anyone heard anything new about this???

Well I puled my Clarion FZ709 out today and installed a JVC KD-R80BT in its place. The blue tooth adapter in the JVC is removeable and the software can be upgraded.

Until recently, I found Iphone was so bad even I tried to send pictures to my friends Galaxy Nexus through Bluetooth. 2 phones were connected initially and finally disconnected after I had have several attemps and gave me the same result. I know 4s is using 4.0 Bluetooth, and 4.0 Bluetooth is backward compatible. But why this
i-produce doesn't work???? or Apple does any restriction on it? And I also read the manual about the bluetooth on iphones. it seems they only support some i-devices.If I am wrong, correct me. But totally I am disppointted at this product now.

So I guess we're all out of luck on this? I'm assuming that 5.1.1 didn't solve the problem? (my phone is jailbroken and I can't upgrade to 5.1.1 to test this myself)

Does anyone know of a way to make this work on a jailbroken phone running ios5?
Maybe we can change our Bluetooth slightly to still work with the clarion.
I've just been using the USB interface but it charges the phone too slowly.

I sold mine on eBay for $80. Get some money back while you can. Put it towards a stereo that's firmware upgradable and stay away from Clarion.

What did you pick up to replace it?

A Kenwood KDC-BT952HD. HD Radio, bluetooth music streaming, color control. I haven't had a single issue with anything.

Apple devices do not allow sharing of information over bluetooth. Apple product or not. Bluetooth on iOS is purely for pairing with things like headsets, and other devices as a Hotspot.

I replaced the Clarion that the previous owner had installed in my Honda and installed a Pioneer DEH-6400BT. Works flawlessly with my 4S and charges the battery as well. I have tried out the phone with it as well as streaming music via bluetooth and everything works perfectly. My phone has the latest firmware.

Anyone tried the new iOS6 in beta?
Currently Being ModeratedJun 17, 2012 12:04 PM (in response to michaelfromgusenburg)
No, it does not work with iOS 6 beta.
Don't hold your breath on this combo anymore. Hardly a 2009 head unit will work with a 2012 software. Sad but true.

It's kind of funny how this works.
I have a 2012 Pioneer deck installed in my Honda that has bluetooth. It works with my 4S and my 3GS in all functions including iPod/bluetooth/Bluetooth Music. That deck also works with my 2008 iPod Classic 160GB. It does not work with my 30GB iPod Photo, deck simply says USB: NO when I connect it and the battery won't charge. This deck was $149.
In my Chevy, I have a Pioneer DVD with a video touchscreen from 2008. It doesn't have bluetooth because I wasn't interested in it back then. That deck works with anything I plug into it to play music using the dock connector. I can connect my 30GB iPod Photo from 2004, it works and displays the song info on the decks screen with no problems. I can plug in my iPod Classic and use every function on it. I can plug in my 3GS and use it the same way but the battery won't charge. I can plug in my 4S and use it the same way with music but the battery won't charge. It doesn't matter about the battery not charging because I can still play my music using it and control the music using the on screen controls. Even videos that I have on the phone can be played on my decks screen. This deck was $599.
I never bothered to order the bluetooth device for this deck but I wish I had now.
