    Try this first:

    Delete the Preferences.

Al I saw you on a few other posts and wanted some input...I can open final cut but a project I am in the middle of working on is the classic "too new or unreadable". I believe it is due to a corrupt file. Even when I take my media offline (unplug my external hard drive), the project still won't open. I found an auto save version but still lost a lot of work. I went through all my render clips and couldn't find one with a problem.

Even stranger, I had FOUR different versions of this FCP file saved and they all say they are "too new or unreadable" after it happened to the original file...that makes me think it is a render file or something that each one of the projects is using. I could start over but I really would like to restore the version I was working on.

Everything was working fine, until I was exporting a project and final cut unexpectedly shut down. What do you suggest I do? Keep trying to fix the issue or just start over?

    Thanks

If you have already searched this forum for assistance then I probably can't help.

Auto Save Projects will help save some time if one of those open correctly but it's your decision on starting anew.

I would try trashing the FCE Preferences, repair permissions and reboot your Mac, this can't hurt anything.

Maybe create a new User Account and try opening the Project in that.

I suspect a bad Sequence though.
