Posted this elsewhere, but think this may be the best spot for it.

Yesterday about 3:45 PM Eastern, Messages for the account I have tied to Messages stopped working. We have 4 Apple IDs in the house. Mine, which is on my iPhone, my wife's (which is the now troublesome one) on the iMac and new iPad, and two daughters (one original iPad one on an iPod touch). Aside from my wife's, all is well. My wife can't send to anyone from the iMac, and when I try to go into the Account Setting in Messages.app, it won't let me save anything. This has worked fine since the Messages beta started, and since we got the new iPad on launch day. Yesterday is the first time there has been an error for more than a few minutes, and it has seeped into a second day. If I send from the iPad to my iPhone, I get the "Not Delivered" on the iPad, even though it is delivered to the iPhone. Reply from the iPhone and get the "Not Delivered" but the iPad gets the message. Nothing on the Messages.app. Quitting Messages doesn't help.

    Hi,

    Apple ID 1 On iPhone

Apple ID 2 on iMac (with wife)

Apple ID 3 on Daughter 1's iPad

Apple ID 4 on Daughter 2's iPod Touch.

Apple ID 1 and Apple ID 3 are both reporting Not Delivered but are actually sending and being Received.

The Apple ID 2 on the iMac can contact no-one in iMessages and this is the more concerning issue.

In Message beta on the iMac go to the Messages Menu > Accounts and turn Off the iMessages Account (It should be the top one)

Untick the "Enable this Account" box.

Quit Messages (this make sure it rewrites the .plist)

Open Messages  and re-enable the Account.

    Does this work ?

    Thanks for the suggestion, Ralph.

Tried it and still no luck. Slight adjustment to your listed ids.

    Apple ID 1 On iPhone

Apple ID 2 on iMac (with wife) and on iPad

Apple ID 3 on Daughter 1's iPad

Apple ID 4 on Daughter 2's iPod Touch.

    Communiction between 1, 3, and 4 - No issues.

Communication between 2 and any other varies

-- iPad with ID 2 can send messages that are received by other IDs, but the "Not Deliverd" text/ ! appear, even though the message is displayed on the other accounts device.

-- iMac does not see that the message was sent from the iPad.

-- iMac DOES see that someone is replying/typing, with the grey balloon and ... but never gets the message

-- iMac can not send to any other account - "Not Deliverd" behavior.

    Hi,

Whilst the ID is truned Off in Messages beta (And the app is Quit)

Does the ID then work from the iPad (2 ?)

IF that does not work does  it work if the iMac is shut down ?

The reason I ask this is that a support app for iChat and FaceTime performs a "Listening" watch that will start either app up if some one Calls.

If the iMac is On can it be called on FaceTime (I presume the same ID is used ?)

If the iMac out of the lop works Start up the iMac and in the Finder use the GO menu

Hold down the ALT key to see the Library (and Select)

Go to the Preferences and drag com.apple.IMAgent.plist to the trash.

As this app starts up when the computer does restart the computer to get the .plist to be rewritten from defaults.

It is late where I am and it will be several hours (close to 20) before I get back for more replies.

    Ralph,

BRILLIANT!  Deleteing that file and restarting did the trick!

Thanks so much for your help.

Hope you had a good night/day.
