Q: Apple Hardware Test (AHT) is GONE!! after Lion install

After installing Lion on my new early 2011 MBP the AHT is gone...

Pressing "D" will not load the AHT (it was installed and working fine in my MBP prior to Lion).

I called the APP hotline to inquire about it and the technician couldn't boot into the AHT on all the macs with Lion available to him.

(a report has been filed with the engineering team)

According to the newly updated KB: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509

QUOTE: "Some Macintosh computers that shipped with OS X Lion support the use of Apple Hardware Test over the Internet."

After pressing and holding the "D" key the Mac just loads into the desktop... There is no online AHT or pre-installed AHT available...

>> Is anybody else having this problem?? <<

If you are having the same problem maybe you should also report it to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ or the APP hotline...

MacBook Pro , MacBook , Mac Mini , PowerBook , iBook, Mac OS X (10.7), AEBS (N) and almost every Apple software available in the market

File a bug report with Apple for lost functionality. Requiring the Internet for any installation or running an app is a dumb idea.

The Option+D route brings up the online version of AHT for me, but when it finally loads and I select a language, it comes back with "Apple Hardware Test not supported on this machine".  I'm currently running 10.7.4 Intel i7

Anyone have any clue why the online AHT might not be working with my Mac?  From a number of searches, almost nothing is popping up with this problem, and from this thread it also appears that I'm the only one with this problem.

    From "About This Mac"

    iMac 27-inch. Mid 2010

Processor: 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7

Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB

    Software: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)

I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion (digital version)

When I try to boot up AHT using option+D, it starts up, gets to the language options, but as soon as I select english it returns "Apple Hardware Test not supported on this machine" and then I can only shut down.  I've also disconnected (as per recommendation) all USB attached devices before trying to run AHT.

Everything I'm running is 100% un-moddified, out of the box legitimate.

Since your machine shipped with Snow Leopard, just like mine, use the AHT disc that came with it. If other reports are correct, Lion blows away the hidden  .diagnostics file from /System/Library/CoreServices/ and that's the AHT, so it won't run on your machine.

Hi Ive made a pkg that will install AHT on all those machines, that came with snow leopard. It takes a little while to install, as it does a permissions repair on the drive. Once its installed you can reboot the machine and hold down D. You can download it from here https://www.dropbox.com/s/9uxjyri2nayfpkk/AHTInstall4.pkg. Let me know if you install it on any new machines that are brand new and it works.

    Thank you

Before trying to install you PKG, can you explain step-by-step what it does please?

Or practice Safe Computing (which does NOT mean placing your mouse inside a condom) and map out the PKG using Pacifist, before risking the Mac.

It puts the CPU_AHT files to the System/Library/Coreservices/.diagnostics folder. After it has done that it will then carry out a disk repair on the permissions of the OS. For some reason if you don't do the disk repair the Mac won't boot into AHT. On this I made a bash script so that it carries out the permissions repair. Pkg'ed it all up and this will then allow the mac to boot into AHT when holding down D on the keyboard.

Or you could use pacifist which is free to explore the pkg contents.

    Thank You

This package worked like a champ for me. I have a mid 2011 Mac Pro that shipped with Snow Leopard. Where was the CPU_AHT file installed from? Was it present on my hardrive already, or did you provide it with your pkg?

So I take it that the AHT file that you included will work for any configuration of any model of Mac?

I installed the file provided by Jasric89, and I ran the disc permissions repair utility, but the AHT does not work. What happens is that my Macbook actually shuts down when I press D or option D. I'm afraid my OS was messed up. Is there a way to revert to the original configuration with a "recovery" option?
