The music on your iPod should still be stored in your iTunes library on your Mac. If it isn't, you'll want to get it there first.
If the music has already been wiped, you can redownload most iTunes purchases via iCloud. See this article for more information.
For other non-iTunes purchased content, you'll need to redownload or rerip them from their original source such as as a CD or online downloads store.

Thanks for that. I have the music on my Mac, but Restore from Backup leaves my iPod empty. How do I get it onto my iPod? That's the big question.

The backup does not include syned items like apps and music. Theus if they were not in tyour iTunes library on the computer on which you did the update they will not appear on the iPod after restore from backup. You have to synec the apps and music to the iPod.

Thankyou. That led me directly to what to do. Music etc had been transferred to the new computer. All that was necessary was to choose these items to synch. Why couldn't Apple's notes say so? Anyway, well solved lllaass.
