Pbsetup 1.3 IS (without any doubt - go look at the file info) a PPC compiled app.
Let me say that again in case anyone else missed it:
PBSETUP 1.3 IS A PPC ONLY APP.
Just because it runs on your current Intel Mac doesn't mean it's not PPC only; it means your version of OS X has a compatibility "bridge" called Rosetta installed, that allows PPC software to run on Intel hardware.
That is why it will not run on Snow Leopard (default install) or on Lion (any type of install), but will run on older versions of OS X running Intel hardware. Or, if you install Rosetta manually with Snow Leopard it will run. Lion users don't have that option. Apple is no longer supporting any type of PPC software via its most recent operating system and all future operating systems, including in the installer (Rosetta is gone).
All Evenbalance has to do (as they do Windows and Linux) is recompile their app to run on Intel (probably with very minor changes only), and redistribute it as 1.4. Would take one of their volunteers or whoever runs that system maybe one day, two days tops to get it done.
Also: I tried tried the servers again. One of them let me play for about 3 minutes, then kicked me. After that the kick is immediate on all other servers I tried.
If aspyr would just release the new COD for Mac and new PBsetup we wouldn't have this problem.
Dan-o, I am no Mac guru like yourself, I just report what I see. I have Snow Leopard and the PBsetup 1.3 works fine. It updates the files, but I keep getting kicked from every game I try to join.
Hope they solve this soon.
Looks like I spoke too early. When I tried to login my favorite COD4 server this morning and it was a success. However, there weren't any players online for an obvious reason. When I tried again this afternoon when it was filled with players, PB kept kicking me out? This doesn't make sense at all.
I can't use PBSetup because my iMac is running Lion OS and I've already filled out a help ticket at evenbalance.com No response yet....
I'm just going to confirm what Dan-o posted. The pbsec.htm file gets deleted every time you are kicked from a server. I have re-installed PunkBuster 3 different times. Though I run Lion, I still have a copy of Snow Leopard with Rosetta on a secondary drive. So I boot that up and run the installer.
I have deleted the pb install. Reinstalled. Connected to the servers I usually play. On a couple, I can play for a few minutes. On some, I get kicked as soon as I'm in game.
In each case pbsec.htm gets removed/deleted.
I've opened a support ticket with Even Balance and updated with details about the files installed and events recorded. Hopefully, they will get the files updated correctly.
I have the same problem. I updated PB manually, opening the app package and putting in the PB folder thefiles, but the server still kicking me with legend "You must update your PB".
In my case the files still there after kick...
My original PB files are with the extensionI don't know if I will have to delete them or I have to change the new ones files extension to I tried everything, but I am stilling have the same problem.
The only way will be sending a lot of mails to PunkBuster support or something like that.
Same problem here, i5 imac 10.6.8..
Closest I got was deleting pb folder and updating using pbsetup, got to play for 30 seconds then kicked for pb ini fault(or something like that....)
Have also filled a support ticket with Even Balance....
I would be very surprised if any of us receive a single response from Even Balance within the next 30 days. They (and by extension Aspyr, who is a licensee this half-assed way of securing online games) forgot about us a long time ago. When they released Pbsetup 1.3.
It's happening to everyone on a Mac....most everyone is runnung Intel by now. Aspyr is on top of it and apparently so is EvenBalance.
