Q: iMAC 21" WIFI failing after 10.7.4 update

Hi,

Before the 10.7.4 update the WIFI connection from the iMac 21.5" to the airport extreme router works fine!

Now it's failing several times a day! it looses the wifi connection and you are unable to see any wireless accesspoints or SSID's

Macbook pro, iphone & ipad + PC's still works fine!

The only way to get the wireless up and working again is to shutdown and restart the iMac.

Please help, there must be a serious bug in this update any solution available to solve it?

In the log i can see alot, don't know if this is some clue or error occuring just after the wireless connection is dropped for unknown reasons.

"kernel: 2329.723808: ath_chan_set: unable to reset cannel XX (XX00Mhz) flags 0x10080 hal status 17"

"kernel: 2632.354892: ASSERT: Can not reenter VAP State Machine"

"kernel: AirPort: Link Down on en1. Reason 8 (Disassociated because station leaving)."

Turning off and on the wireless interface only shows the following in the log, and the wifi will not see any SSID's :

"kernel: 71847.200440: switchVap from 1 to 1"

I have the same problem. On friday I updated to 10.7.4, until then, no problems with connecting to AirPort Extreme. But after the update, when I wake iMac 27" from the sleep, it looses the connection to the AirPort and the only solution is to restart iMac. I have iPad and another computers on the same wi-fi and all works fine, except iMac. With 10.7.3. I didn't have this problem. I suppose there is some bug when iMac goes from the sleep.

A small update, i don't know if it helped but....

    When it works!

Open the network settings, add a new location (Edit places/locations) removed all old associations with wifi access points to get rid of them. Then i did disable the wireless and re enable it and added my Airport extreme SSID again, checked settings that it should remeber the network it has been connected to also.

So far it seems to work, don't know if it's a config file/keychain problem or such that did previous work fine..

But hopefully it will continue to work, will give it a try until tomorrow to see if it gets back or not!

(It's been a real issue after the update to 10.7.4)

    Still working fine...

Will also try to enable and set the power options having the computer to go to sleep!

And see if that is also working...

I am having exactly the same problem.  iMac21" drops wifi and cannot reconnect without reboot.  Same as others, we have several ipad, ipod, iphone, apple TV etc etc in the same network and they work just fine.  This is definately something to do with a bug in the OsX Lion 10.7.4 that was released in the last few days.  Come on Apple, please patch this asap.  I will try what you suggest Johnan, thanks for this.

Exact same issue. 2011 iMac 21.5 inch with i7 attached to airport extreme.

Every 10mins or so I get a disconnect and the only thing I can do to rectify the situation, to renable wifi is a full reboot. No manual on/off wifi helps (even ifconfig up/down dosen't help).

I get the following dump in the console

16/05/2012 08:42:58.000 kernel: AirPort: Link Down on en1. Reason 16 (Group Key Handshake timeout).

    16/05/2012 08:42:58.713 UserEventAgent: CaptiveNetworkSupport:CaptivePublishState:1211 en1 - PreProbe

Really frustrating given that it worked so well for so long.

    DomGiles,

On your wireless router, increase the group key refesh interval to 60 minutes and test how long you can stay on the network.

Did you guys try installing the combo update ? Also try deleting the network frmo your Preferred network lists and re-add it to check if it works.

    Problem got back... :-(

Did now set the computer to never go to sleep again, maybe it will be more stable....

10.7.4 seems to be a bad upgrade for iMAC users 2011 models...

Is this only occuring for users that got the Airport Extreme routers???

I'm not really ready to reinstall the computer from scratch...

(Or what will the combo update do that the ordinary update dosen't do?)

    /Johan

I was having fits with this over the last couple of days. I installed the combo update, added new locations, reset PRAM, anything I could think of. The thing that finally worked was to turn off Bluetooth. I shut it off this morning and haven't had a problem all day.

Are you on 2.4 or 5 Ghz ? Have you tried installing the combo update ? Did anything else change between 10.7.3 and now (other than the update ofcourse)?

What do you mean by "combo update"? I have installed update to 10.7.4. but I don't know what do you mean by "combo".

Same problem for me, too. iMac 27", Airport Extreme. After waking up from sleep the Wifi connection is broken. Only rebooting helps. Not cool.
