My hard drive crashed and it took my library with it.  When I try to sync my iPad2 I get the message that I need to transfer purchases from the iPad to the PC.  I do that, but it gets stuck on step 4, the wheel keeps spinning but goes no further.  I've seen this question asked here in the past, but don't see any answers.

Anyone know how to fix this?  Any word from Apple?

Close all of your apps on the iPad, restart the iPad, quit iTunes, reboot the computer and then try again.

Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

Sorry, Demo, that didn't work.  I'm still stuck at step 4 of 4 (waiting for changes to be applied).  I assume that you are suggesting that I connect the iPad to PC, open iTunes, then restart iPad, quit iTunes, then reboot PC all while the iPod is still connected and after I have closed all the apps.  Correct?

No - actually I would eject the device and then reboot everything - I would not restart everything with the device connected to iTunes. In other words start all over again like you were strting from scratch.

However, if that didn't work, I'm not sure that starting all over again while disconnected will work either.

How long does it stay on "waiting for changes to be applied"?

It stays on step for for over an hour then I get discussed and disconnect.  And I did try starting over from scratch and it still gets hung up.

An hour is way to long to be on that step. I have seen it take 5 or 6 minutes on my Mac and thought that was an eternity.

Are you using Windows? I'm thing maybe a fresh install of iTunes might help and my other thought is that your backup is corrupt.

I just found this in another discussion if you are running Windows.

    1. Quit iTunes.

    2. Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click "Command Prompt" -> "Run as Administrator"

    3. In the command prompt type "netsh winsock reset" and hit ENTER.

    4. Reboot your machine.

    5. Restart iTunes

i know this only works on windows but it may help those that have this issue on a PC.

Yes, I'm running Win7 I guess I should have said that up front.  I'll give this a try later.

    Thanks

You said PC in your original post, but I just wanted to make sure. Good luck.

Nope, that didn't work either, but thanks.  I'm wondering if Apple has an offical fix???
