Jan 28, 2012 4:31 AM in response to jbreak23by Dos,This just happened to me for the first time. I had just sent an SMS and was waiting for a phone call back when the phone went black and kept vibrating. I tried to turn it off but nothing happened, I then plugged it into the mains - this stopped the vibrating immediately but it still wouldn't turn on. I then did a reset (pressing power and home buttons simultaneously) and it came back on and now seems to be running OK.
Not sure if this helps anyone but the solution worked for me.

Feb 12, 2012 9:32 AM in response to jbreak23by ToOphizaT,Ok Its Pretty Simple Fix. Just Hold The Power/Lock Button And The Home Button At The Same Time For About 10 Seconds Until The Apple Logo Pops Up On Your iPhone's Screen And There You Go Fixed...

Feb 22, 2012 5:16 AM in response to jbreak23by aththika,It's F I N E heres what you do.
DONT CALL APPLE (They don't need trouble lol)
Hold down both the HOME BUTTON and the SLEEP/WAKE button
AND
keep holding them
We need to do a hard reboot (and you wont lose any data!)
After a few (10ish) seconds you'll see the APPLE LOGO,,, KEEP HOLDING
WAIT ABOUT 15 more seconds and the phone will go into shutdown.
Now press the top button again and hold it for as long as it takes to start the boot cycle.
That 'should' fix it. You can also try this If you are having problems with the proximity sensor

Feb 24, 2012 3:14 PM in response to jbreak23by iadmireu,I just experienced this issue. After reset phone is working. I had my phone on vibrate mode, so wonder if that has to do anything with the issue. Trying to recreate the problem.

Mar 9, 2012 11:15 PM in response to jbreak23by ziing,my phone just stopped vibrating after 4.5 hours and when i recharged it, it vibrates non stop again! it is very very irritating and frustrating...
it is not as easy as holding the home button + sleep/wake button. i have tried multiple times. I just brought it back from an apple store those technician from the 'genius' bar can't even stop it...and just offer to replace a new phone with $179 dollar, it sounded to me a ripped off and RIDICULOUS...why on earth i have to pay for an apple's manufacturing faults??????? I have not had my data back up so i decided to bring my phone back hoping it can be reboot.....
can anyone offer some help here?

Mar 19, 2012 3:17 AM in response to jbreak23by NC99,Iphone 4 iOS 5
In local shopping centre time 13:35 ish
Phone started vibrating (vibrate mode off)
Removed from pocket; Screen blank and very hot, could not turn it off.
Eventually Battery died.
Tried recharging, resetting, removing sim - Nothing
Next day a friend suggested placing phone in freezer for 1 hour then when removed connecting charger and holding down power button until battery symbol appears with a very thin red line on the left hand side, then leave it to fully charge.
This I did and about 6 hrs later it started ringing - voicemail for a call at 13:34hrs
All data on phone in tact and working.
My friend also stated before I had tried the above, without prompting, that I had probably been standing at a shop entrance with a security tag system when the phone had received a call or text message as this had happened to a couple of others where he works. Yes he was correct.
Many thanks Gandolf, my friend!

Apr 25, 2012 7:48 AM in response to aththikaby zflaws,This solved my problem! Thanks! But one detail about my experience was a little different than the others I read and Apple maybe could use my info if they have not yet solved this. My phone was not being used and was just sitting on the table next to my laptop. When I could not shut off the vibrating I thought maybe it was being caused by the fact that it was sync-ing with the laptop, because I have it set to sync over wifi. When I shutdown the laptop the vibration stopped. The phone wouldn't go on again until I did what aththika suggested...but now I have turned off the sync over wifi. Could that have something to do with the problem??

May 14, 2012 8:10 PM in response to Rho001by aglamb,I scrolled down far enough to see that someone tried holding the home and power buttons for 10 seconds, and it was fine. I tried it, and it worked. Here's hoping that's the end of the random black screen and vibrating problem!

May 18, 2012 9:08 AM in response to rsgill864by dog20,OK, I've read 20 comments that tell you to do a reset. If that had worked I would have done that an hour ago and been on with my day. Tried power+home, power+volume up, power+volume up+home. Removed the sim card. This phone will not reboot until the battery has drained. Lots of my coworkers warning me about fully draining a battery causing damage. Also frustrated that the Apple line insists that you can get your serial number from the phone or iTunes. When the phone is unusable, you cannot. You can, however get it from the sim card tray. Was also upset that they told me that it is out of the 90 day warranty, and beyond the one year warranty and that I would have to purchase coverage or take it to an apple store for repair. She asked me which I wanted to do, and I said "neither" and hung up. Stuck it in a drawer so that the buzzing doesn't drive me crazy, may call AT&T next.

May 18, 2012 5:20 PM in response to dog20by ziing,Yes holding whatever buttons does not reset the phone at all!i know exactly how frustrated it is.i had my phone non stop vibrating after the 5.0 update.i bring it to apple store non of the so called genius can help.they asked me to pay $185 for a replacement phone which I did not agree! Spent hours there but nothing get fixed ...I was so frustrated! I brought the phone home hoping aftee the battery drained off it will be ok...but NO it doesn't !continue to buzz after I recharge !So I went back to the store the following day -frustrated and given up and decided to pay them just get rid of that bloody buzzing phone!explained to that guy the problem and he said he can try fixing it,I didn't put much hope...but amazingly he DID fixed it.what he do,he detached the battery, reset it to factory setting and then put the battery back on...then works! So go to the store, there is nothing u can get done over the help line...hope u find someone helpful!

May 19, 2012 5:35 AM in response to dog20by Dos,Have you tried plugging it into the mains and doing a reset whilst plugged in??

May 30, 2012 7:28 AM in response to jbreak23by mport68,My iPhone 4 (running OS 5.1.1) just did the same thing. It was not being used and started vibrating continiously with a black screen and no buttons working. I tried turning it off and tried a hard reset, but neither worked. I was concerned about completely exhausting the Li-Ion battery and killing it so I opened the case, disconnected and reconnected the battery and problem solved.
So, a relatively simple fix is to remove three screws (two holding back of case on, one holding the battery connection), remove & replace the battery and reassemble!
