My Macbook keeps disconnecting itself from the internet

    It happens to me, too.  I solved it by click on Network, click on Advanced, and down where it said "Require administrator password to:" I checked on "Turn AirPort on or off"


    Doing it this the AirPort wifi cannot be turned off by the computer without a password.  Hope this helps you all.  It sure helped me.

    After talking with Apple Support several times over several days for hours and achieved nothing, i reformatted the disk, reinstalled Lion again and still had the problem with my wifi.


    Today i changed my router and got from my internet provider a Hitron BVW 3653 and everything works fine. I checked my macbook's wifi connectivity at a different network with the same router model before changing it.


    I suspect it has to do something with the DNS and it loses internet connection, but again not quiet sure. Now i'm happy

    This is exactly what I experience on my MBP 13"- "Turning airport off and on again from the menu bar rarely works for me. It usually turns off, but then attempting to turn it back on doesn't work; it just stays off. "

    I used to restart it to reconnect. But lately it's even worse, the airport just stays OFF always, even when I turn it back ON. I can't even upgrade software or check for updates.

    I have the same "The Airport on my Macbook seems to just cut off, and then I cannot turn it back on. I have to restart to get the wifi signal again, but its never permanent. I may have a connection for ten minutes or ten seconds."

    this is bogus, i've been having this problem for such a long time, but usually it resolves after one restart of the airport. Today i had to keep playing with the airport connection for 20 min so I could get the net back up. I thought it was the router but my phone was running with wifi with no problem and i was able to skype on it. I finally restarted the modem and router and now the MBP is connected, but who knows when it will drop the connection. I wish apple would do something about this issue. Everyone seems to have this.

    I've had my Macbook Pro 17 for about a month. It disconnects from the network daily. If I'm running Windows 7 under Parellels, not so much. It works fine under those conditions, but it definitely has a problem. I've tried every suggestion on each of the threads going here. None have helped. I guess I'll have to haul my laptop down to Apple and try to get some satisfaction there. I really don't want to go there though - I have stuff to do here!

    what i tryed so far is almost every thing but with no luck what so ever. And last week i tryed to change the Channel width from Auto to 20 MHz, and for a week now it's working good. i dont know if this will work for ever. just wanted to share this with u guys it might help someone

    maybe you can try this.


    on spotlight, search for "terminal"


    then ping the host domain of your router. for D-LINK default is


    so in terminal just type ping


    as soon as your wifi is searchable and connects you will never disconnect. hope it works

    it ping's normally but the problem still exists. i tryed changing the modem but didnt work


    so i changed the password to WEP and the TYPE is OPEN and for now it's working normally "so far"

    it keeps disconnecting the internet access though the ping to the LAN IP of the wireless router works fine.

    I found a solution (to mine at least). I have a macbook pro using 10.6.8 and I went through a time where it would intermittently disconnect from the wireless and I could just turn the airport off and on and it would work again. Then it kept getting worse where I would have to remove all networks, restart the computer... etc. And after a very painful hour later finally get connectivity. Then lastnight, it wouldn't come back on. Sure it would connect for about 20 seconds and then, nothing.

    The solution:

    Turn off the airport

    In Advanced - remove all networks

    Hit apply


    Log into your router

    Disable it from broadcasting the SSID

    Apply Router settings


    Back to the macbook

    Turn Airport on

    Create a new network


    manually type in the SSID and the encryption


    BAM! You are connected!

    I finally figured out what to do to fix this problem for me I replaced my router with a new airport express 802.11n. After I set it up I went back into settings and allowed AirPlay over wan. This is a check box that appears only in the manual settings. Now all my airports are working to play music and my network is faster than it ever has been. Total expense around $100.00.

    I just spoke with an Apple Express Lane support rep about this happening to my iMac on Lion 10.7.4.  We changed the channel that my Airport Express is using to broadcast.  The default is typically 11, and there were a lot of wifi networks in my area broadcasting on 11 (check nearby networks/channels by going to > About This Mac > More Info > System Report > Network > Wi-Fi... look at the list of other networks and the channel they are using).  Used a channel nobody else is broadcasting on.

    To change the Airport Express broadcast channel: (spotlight search: "Airport Utility") Airport Utility > click on your Airport > Edit > Wireless tab > Wireless Options... > Radio Channel.

    change it to something nobody else is using, then save, update, and wait for it to reboot.

    I just bought a Macbook pro 2 weeks ago, and a week in, started to have problems with the machine getting disconnected from my wifi network. Called apple support, the lady was nice and helped me through creating a new location under system preferences. Soon as I hung up up the phone, the problem came back.

    So I took it back to the Apple Store and got it replaced since it is under warranty. Now into my second machine for barely 3 days, the same problem occurs yet again! This is ridiculous and preposterous.


    Reading through this thread, I realize mine is definitely not a one-off case.

    Apple, this is what I call daylight robbery when you resume to sell your faulty macbook pro machines. What good is a laptop if it won't even connect to the internet?


    Some answers from Apple, please.
