If you cant use your startup disk to do the repair how do you know you cant repair it? What OS are you running? If you need a new startup disk call AppleCare and order a replacement.

If you don't want to spend money, here's what you might be able to do:
1.(if you can), back up as many things as possible (documents, applications, etc) and put it on another hard drive.
3.Wish that everything is going to be alright
4.Move everything back onto the computer

If your computer is completely dead:
1. take out the hard drive
2. Get a SATA to USB coverter
3. Plug it into another mac.
4. Try to see if it can be accessed. If it can, get everything you can. If not, try repairing it using Disk Utility.
5. Reinstall OSX onto that hard drive (the one plugged in)
First, check if it's legal to take out the hard drive
