    Welcome to the Apple community.

Make sure that both the Apple TV and your iPad are on the same network and that you haven't turned airplay off in the airplay settings on the Apple TV.

I have the same issue. AirPlay was working between my iPad and Apple TV when I bought the ATV but stopped working when I bought an iPad 2.

The AirPlay icon is missing on both iPads now.

I  checked that AirPlay is enabled on the Apple TV and  it is using the same network as the iPads. I also restarted the iPads.

    Still no AirPlay icon.

Same issue here, tried everything suggested, nothing worked until I went in and reenetered the password for the wifi. Went back to AirPlay settings on the apple tv (2nd generation), AirPlay had been turned off, enabled it and everything worked like before.

Just to clarify, everything else worked on the apple tv, and AirPlay was enabled before entering the wifi password again.

I had this same issue...I simply went to my apple TV settings.  In settings/airplay/turn on.

I was having the same problems..

    Here's how I fixed it.

      1.  Make sure that your bluetooth is turned off.  I have a bluetooth keyboard that was interfereing with it.

       2.  Make sure that no other device has the same IP address.   My Ipad took the address of one of my DVR's.

    One more thing..

I found the icon in the 'play setting' of the Ipad.

ie...  hit the 'home button" twice fast.  swipe your icons all the to right so that you stop all the way on the left.  you see play buttons and other stuff.  You'll see the Airplay thing there. I think it is the second button from the right.

Check your wireless security mode in your router:

Set the wireless security to :  WPA2-PSK (AES)

    This solved my problem.

P.s you may have to loggin again.
