Q: Trying to boot from CD with os x 10.6 and using "C" key doesn't work.

I have recently obtained a Power Mac G5 from a friend who was getting rid of it and I wanted to update the operating system.  After wiping the computer, I set the boot to "network" (stupid mistake) but now it will not boot from the cd even when I hold the "C" key.  The install disk that I have is 10.6, but I believe the system requirements are satisfied.  I can make it to the command dialog by holding option on startup but I don't know much else about things from here... I hope I didn't mess something up by erasing.  This computer was given to me so I am not looking to invest a lot of money in it.  I already have a macbook pro, but I wanted this computer as a nice desktop to do work on at home.  Again, I am not very knowledgeable about operating systems and this is my outlet to get support.  Over the phone would cost $50 and that would just be to get a diagnosis of the problem.  I hope someone can help.  Thanks.
