I now get no sound from my 5th gen 30gb iPod classic. I plays on the display but no sound via the jack or dock. It's been well looked after an only really used on my docking station so for this to happen is a shame. Will apple offer any assistance even though it is out of warranty?

After googling this problem I have found out that it could be the control board that has gone and they suggested squeezing the bottom right of the iPod to see if sound comes out. This does not work for me but after another suggestion to put it in the freezer, this seemed to solve the problem only temporary. Then sound loss occurs.

Apple please help...

It seems you already know the issue at hand.  You'll need to have the iPod serviced or replaced either by Apple or a third party repair company.  You could even replace the faulty parts yourself if you felt up to the task. However, you look at it,it's hardware related.
